Daphine recently spent some time on-air at OnFM based in Lyric Square, Hammersmith. The (live) interview went very well, and was an excellent opportunity to share the vision of the H&F Foodbank with its listeners.
Foodbank volunteers had a great day at Sainsbury’s on Townmead Road on the 7th May 2011. Despite it being a quite day for the store, we still managed to collect 752.2 kilos of food! We also met some very encouraging shoppers and were even given £80 to buy food to cover any shortfalls. As ever, we are very grateful too, for all the staff at Sainsbury’s as well as all the volunteers who make it possible. A special thank you too, to Greg Hands MP who kindly spent about an hour with us, encouraging shoppers to support the H&F Foodbank.”
“We are delighted with the success of our partnership with Foodbank and by the fantastic response of customers in Fulham to such a worthwhile cause”
H&F Foodbank has been a big success since it was launched a year ago by Christ Church Fulham, Sainsbury’s and me. They have provided over 5,300 meals to needy people locally, and they can be very proud of this achievement. I look forward to supporting this excellent scheme in the future as well.
Bill Nighy visited the H&F Foodbank in April as part of the Robin Hood Tax Campaign. Although we do not get involved in political campaigning ourselves, we were happy to introduce him to some of our clients so that he could hear first-hand about some of the issues that lead to people needing the help of a Foodbank. Bill Nighy said: ‘It’s very moving to come here in modern times to see a room incredibly well stocked with donated food for people who, through no fault of their own, have dropped through the cracks. The fact that the people here volunteer to help is both touching and exemplary. I salute all those involved.’ Daphine Aikens, Foodbank Manager responded: ‘We are thrilled that high profile people like Bill Nighy are willing to do something about the high levels of hidden poverty in the UK. The truth is that our foodbank is only ‘incredibly well stocked’ because of the generosity of local people here in Hammersmith and Fulham. We can only do what we do with the support of the local community – which is why we’re asking as many people as possible to come and give us a tin or two at our first birthday supermarket collection at Sainsbury’s on 7th May. Every tin of soup or packet of pasta helps us to continue to provide emergency food to people in desperate need who are living on our doorstep.
If you missed it you can listen online to this interview with Daphine, the director of H&F foodbank at Premier Radio.

The collection day on the 4th of December was a great success with over 800 kg of food being collected.
A massive thank you to all who helped and also to those who donated food. This will make a difference to many families this Christmas.
Since we opened at the end of June 2010, the Hammersmith & Fulham Foodbank has provided food for almost 200 people – which is 2000 meals. (more…)
The 4th of December has been confirmed as the next supermarket collection day at the Sandsend Sainsbury’s store, and we need volunteers! The Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham will be there to lend her support.
